Which best describes you?("records" in this context are shellac, vinyl or resin etc. recorded sound discs played using needle)If you have some records you can play and others you can't choose the third option. If you have a player but it's broken choose the first option. You "own" a player if one is in your home and you can use it when you want. You "own" records if you are one of the people who must be asked if they were sold or thrown away.

@futurebird "I own records" plural is technically wrong, as I own exactly one 45 record. ๐

@futurebird I have bought and been gifted vinyl records, usually artists I want to give money to - I don't actually have a record player _yet_, but I'm (slowly, idly...) looking for one!

@futurebird Close enough, but "I own records" plural is technically wrong, as I own exactly one 45 record. ๐

@mhoye I have just accepted that I like to look at the art and have them. I don't have space for a player and I don't want to not have the six records I've found. One is music based on the sounds that ants make!I hope every day to be asked to a record playing party where everyone brings their records from home and you listen to them.

@futurebird I've have asked a few times if I can have the old player sitting in a storage room at my mom's house, but even though it hasn't been used in decades, I haven't been able to talk her into giving it to me yet. ๐

@futurebird Our turntable was a relatively recent purchase because we've adopted the couple hobby of acquiring a half-assed home stereo setup.

@futurebird all through my teens and the first half of my 20s, I had only cassette tapes bc I couldn't afford a CD player or CDs. (Or even particularly many tapes.) When I finally had the money for those things, it was just about practical to rip CDs to mp3s and store them on a hard drive, and I didn't have any speakers except those connected to my computer, so that's what I did. I've never owned a record player.

@futurebird I selected the first option. Technically, I do own a working record player, but with no where to set it up

@futurebird I tried to search for images of the model, and I think this is the one. With green backlit touch buttons.

@futurebird I bought a [library book] truckful of records from the Hennepin County Library in #Minneapolis some years ago. Now, the library's augmenting its vinyl collection with a call to patrons asking them to consider donating their collections! What goes around comes around.

@futurebird when I want to listen to the album as an album itโs nice to have the player and the records, itโs nice because it becomes An Activity and I find myself listening closer

@futurebird Way back when at my grandfather's place - a successful accountant with an old-school, big-heavy-wood-everything house, we were listening to the _incredible_ sound coming out of this huge, ancient, eight-foot-wide, mahogany-cabinet record player, and he said, the secret is taking care of it, take a look inside it.When I opened it up to see what he meant, I found a portable CD player and two 6" speakers parked on top of a record player that obviously hadn't worked in years.

@futurebird The last option, and something I truly regret. I had a decent player and a large collection at one time, but got caught up in the relentless wave of new technology and the need to be efficient with space.

@futurebird I have both, so thatโs how I voted, but TBH I now have only 3-4 records, and my turntable is in storage. I have ~150 CDs, which I โplayโ by ripping them to a SIM card & putting that in my old HTC Vivid phone which is out of service & only good as a (poor by comparison) camera & Bluetooth-connected music player

@futurebird I'm afraid my records when in the skip when we had a clear out a couple of years ago (all means that I'd had of playing them had broken). If you know where I can buy Rocking Duck on CD please let me know ... that's the only one I really miss!

@futurebird I gave away all my vinyl records as well as my turntable in 2000 before I moved across the country -- I occasionally have a tiny pang of regret. I do still have a handful of cassette tapes that I have no way to play, notably music made by a friend who died young and a random tape that my sister made of my nieces when they were kids -- so, genuinely irreplaceable stuff.
