Trump has said FOUR times that he will withhold federal funding from schools that require vaccines. Not just COVID. ALL.This is most schools. This is hitting me where I work. This will lead to children dead from smallpox. Smallpox. Like it's 100 years ago. It's obvious, inevitable. Someone on here said they just couldn't bear to vote for Biden to keep Trump from office since at least under Trump there were better masking rules. I hope that person sees this.Worse is worse.

We learned this the hard way: if you don't have anything tied to not getting vaccinated enough people will opt out out of vague notions about medical distrust, or just the inconvenience of getting it done, that you will have outbreaks. Nearly all schools from Harvard to little community colleges simply won't let you teach or attend if you don't have the shots. It works. When you have private schools without these rules ... that's where we've seen outbreaks. This is so simple. Come on.

@futurebird It's also important to remember the rules were better because the cases were more in people's faces than they are now.Yes, COVID is still around, and if you're sick, wear a mask and stay at home as much as you can. But even with those "better rules", you still had Trump showing his hand on what he actually thought.Remember the cures he suggested? Or how about his reluctance to test people because "it created more cases."

You think they are cracking skulls now? Maybe it’s lack of experience IDK but it can get worse. I’m glad it’s not silent. But it could be. It could be so much worse. @futurebird People seem to think diseases like polio went away by themselves a long, long time ago. And that they won't come back. When the vaccine against polio became available, people in the small town where I lived went for it, gladly. They had seen what polio epidemics could do. One of my earliest childhood memories is a memory of my mother taking my siblings and I to a mass inoculation event at the civic centre.I also remember going to school with kids who wore leg calipers because they'd had polio. My sister had a classmate who'd spent nearly a year in a full body cast because of polio.I'm 61, so it's not that long ago. The reason my kids didn't go to school with polio survivors and didn't get polio themselves is because of widespread vaccinations.

@Barkingdogproblem A lot of people have confused voting with pledging fealty or something. Voters don't get more rights, or little hats. If it makes it easier to get where we need to go I'd for for anything or anyone. I think about half of the noise is just that... noise, from people who either support Trump or want to cause problems. Some of it is sincere though. Because people want to like the people they vote for. I get that. They want to respect them.

@futurebird In the last couple of years, research has been done showing measles can lower the body's immune defense against other illnesses: https://www.sciencenews.org/article/measles-immune-system-memory-infectionSome researchers are suggesting COVID infections may have a similar effect, which could mean that down the road, there's a whole new group of immunocompromised people who are philosophically opposed to following medical/scientific advice.

@futurebird The consequences of getting one of these diseases can be life altering or even deadly.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syL1ATP3jEEPaul Alexander developed polio at the age of 6. The disease left Paul paralyzed from the neck down and unable to breathe on his own. He was placed in an iron lung, a large metal cylinder that varies air pressure to stimulate breathing. Paul died at age 78, accomplishing more than anyone thought was possible.[ Contracted polio in 1952 - No vaccination was available.]

@futurebird I'm sorry to see arguments over the use of mandatory vaccines. I would have thought that the responsible institutions (such as FDA, CDC) would have enough credibility that people would accept their advice. That many people don't is not the fault of those people, but rather the loss of credibility of those institutions. While the FDA accepts over 75% of its funding from pharmaceutical companies it will not be trusted. And as the CDC has a recent track record of contradictory messages, it is a questionable entity. I believe in (well-tested) vaccine use for those who choose it, as I mostly do. Mandating vaccines is a sign of Govt failure, not people's ignorance.
