I never expected to become an expert of sorts in deliberative bodies and their members, yet here I am, dealing with trustees, commissioners, board directors, supervisors, etcetera, pretty much constantly. I now know much more than I ever expected on various forms of parliamentary procedure, operation manuals, Brown Act and the Sunshine Ordinance. Not going to lie, I feel like living in and being around anti-authoritarian collectives prepared me well for this.

The most challenging and emotionally taxing deliberative bodies I've ever dealt with are anarchist collectives.

That's what I tell folks. Every meeting should be organized for a thousand people to participate. Rules of order help make that possible.
