@ScienceDesk posted this pub-sci summary https://apnews.com/article/snow-melt-climate-change-snowpack-ski-aef30ad98817df71913bad660f97fb40 of this new paper https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-023-06794-y on snow cover and snow depth in the Northern Hemisphere. At OpenData by @DeutscherWetterdienst you can shovel snow, too, if stations do report. I recently plotted a few long-running stations with their monthly longest stretch of snow cover and its depth. And because the new paper sets a temperature threshold for potential snow cover at -8°C (17.6° F), I also show my "coldwaves". Longest stretch of daily minimum °C below 0°C, and its "stress": the sum of all°C in the longest cold wave below 0°C. All values are in % of the station's ATM, all-time maximum, or all-time minimum in the case of cold stress. ATM are stated in the plot title.Zugspitze in the Alpes is weird. Nearby Oberstorf is less weird. Kahler Asten is where I grew up in mid Germany at 800m elevation. The #Wirtschaftswunder is evident, a colder and wetter period of #geoengineering . #Weather #Snow #ClimateChange
