"""The destruction of the planet isn't a mistake, isn't a misunderstanding, isn't an accident. It's largely a deliberate process driven by economics and the material reality of the society we live in. Everything that we produce and consume in an industrial civilization is dependent upon the destruction of the planet."""-- Max Wilbert#ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #environmentalism #collapse #ClimateDiary

Strong, true words of Max Wilbert. Most environmental discussions nowadays are a carbon-measuring contest of this or that technology.Source: https://www.planetcritical.com/p/bright-green-lies-max-wilbert

@jackofalltrades I agree that modern environmentalism focuses too narrowly on CO2. We are facing multiple calamities and we need to be mindful of and combat all of them

@jackofalltrades Huh? I think we're having different experiences. The environmentalists I most often deal with hate industrial civilisation to one extent or another. This has the fancy label of 'degrowth', but in daily practice it demands deindustrialisation. If only more environmentalists were more about embracing solutions towards a green industry!

@collectifission Nah, #degrowth isn't a fancy label for the hate of industrial civilization, far from it. Adopting degrowth would mean scaling down production of certain industries, but not deindustrialization per se.Most of environmentalism is indeed about "solutions" to very specific problems.

@jackofalltradesAgreed. Comparing degrowth to deindustrialization is slanderous, at best.Degrowth is about changing priorities so that we can actually achieve sistainability: less money to private jets and more to less intensive farming. It's about focusing on well-being rather than GDP.Degrowthers have no issue with green technology, though we do challenge the idea of green growth because of how quickly we are approaching (or flying by) Earth's biological limits. @collectifission
