@Shadowman311 John Milius begs to differ. The problem today is the support network does not exist. You can't get distribution, you can't promote and the educational system skews things leftward. I maintain that women destroyed hard science fiction via entryism. Those that might write it are tricked into wasting time on characterization and quality prose instead of focusing on ideas.

@SettlerLife @Shadowman311 @judgedread If you want to fix things, first learn the difference between a positive statement and a normative statement.I've observed that the people most attractive to artistic pursuits, especially artistic pursuit as a sole profession, are generally the same kind of low-tier people who find leftism attractive so I am not at all surprised that art tends toward the left.Perhaps this observation is incomplete due to non-representative sampling or some other reason and you have some counterexamples you can share.That would be great, but don't whine to me about this phenomenon I'm reporting as if the act of reporting it is an endorsement.

@mikerotch @Shadowman311 @judgedread First up I was moreso attacking the general sentiment not you, if that seemed like a personal attack thats my bad.Second I've seen these things first hand within my family and on a macro level time and time again within drawfag and artist circles. There are plenty of /ourguy/ and adjacent people who like making stuff that the second they've asked for help keeping a roof over their head get flamed out by people that should have their back for not doing a "real job" instead or were just otherwise pushed into that by family like my father getting his ass beat over it. They are honest people that just have to bow out to keep living and dont have the time to even keep it up as a hobby. This is before we even get to the outright vitriol a lot of people in the right have for the profession over the shit the CIA pushed into it in the 60s.This is all before we even get to the structural issues that have been plaguing our guys since Gamergate every time someone wanted to make something independant and getting deplatformed or having to deal with reasource circles being full of trannisairies looking to ban.

@SettlerLife @Shadowman311 @judgedread I don't know that this problem even has a solution at all.A mass market for art like we have today has no historical precedents so we don't have any past examples to point to as a way to figure out the best way to deal with it.We can look back at history and see folk art produced organically and non-commercially, we can see art commissioned by the elites, art produced as a hobby and by retirees, and we art incorporated by craftsman as part of some other product.Art as a form of mass communication is new.
