"Can't we just alias python3 as 'python' and then the pipeline doesn't error out?" Technically yes. But how about we first change that one digit in your makefile, commit, and see what happens? Might work or break, but in both cases we didn't mess with the build host, right?

This type of conversation is just so common, that I don't even know where to begin. I certainly don't want to be "that guy" and block every change request. It's more of an urge to make the right change for the right reason, sort of. If it turns out that stuff won't work, we'll have to fix the code anyway. No need to alias something (by hand, that is) if there's no reason to do so.. ? Naaaah, TGIF.
