English has the bad word "cock" - referring to the male genitalia.I don't think that has anything to do with chickens. In Norway and Sweden, the word "kuk" is very similar. It is unmistakably referring to the genitals, and cannot be confused for a bird. The English language borrows a lot of words from Scandinavia, and I'm fairly convinced this is one of them.

@thor Then you got those who forget the english name for "che"f, and uses the norwegian word, "kok"k, instead. In a poor attempt to try to be understood. #brokenenglish

@thor In the US we still use the word draincock for a describing what is essentially a tap. I believe it is old English.

Adding to this, in Danish, "kuk" does not refer to the male genitalia. It refers to a mess or a problem. "kuk i computeren" is hilarious to Swedes and Norwegians, because it sounds like "dick in the computer".So, basically, in Danish, it means "f***ed up" instead of the thing you f** with...

@AaronDavid David Bowie was a very strange English man. The UK is good at producing strange English men. That's how the industrial revolution got started. Someone in England decided to be odd.

@thor What's wrong with being proud? I think Shakespeare, the Beatles, J K Rowling etc are good reasons for being proud. America constantly boasts about how great it is, but it isn't. For the record, I was a staunch remainer

@AaronDavid "viking" is a job or role. Most Norse people didn't go raiding. They just quietly stayed here.

Much like you insult people in English by calling them "dick", we insult people in our country by calling them "kuk" (cock) or "pikk" (prick).
