@Independent @mishi Good praxis!I would be interested to hear whether doctors try to discourage men under 30 from a permanent solution to birth control to the same extent they try to discourage women under 30.

@Cassandra I started trying to get my tubes tied at 25–after I had my son & divorced his father. It took me 2.5 yrs & I have no idea how many consultations to find a doc who’d even listen to me. They were all too deeply concerned about the hypothetical desires of some hypothetical man in my hypothetical future to consider MY very real desires/needs. My husband had a vasectomy at 30 (long b4 I knew him). No questions, no issues, no obstacles. He wanted one, he got one. @Independent @mishi

@Cassandra Also, I asked the doc who finally performed my tubal to CUT & cauterize my tubes, & he agreed to do so. Instead, w/o my knowledge, he twisted & banded them. One of the little silicone bands popped off, & I got pregnant. I miscarried--if I hadn't, I'd have aborted. I'm 62 now--I never changed my mind. I knew what I needed. I simply wasn't allowed to have it bc I was a woman. @Independent @mishi

@Cassandra Yep. The procedure wasn't covered by insurance (BC OF COURSE IT WASN'T)--I had to pay in full out of pocket. Almost $2k--that's more than $5k in today's dollars. 🤬
