There have been a couple lf amazing releases already this year and there are several more I am looking forward to -- TMBG, multiple Devin Townsend releases, Lauren Mayberry's solo debut, The Cure (hah), but it's going to be hard to top the Lemon Twigs's A Dream Is All We Know. It's perfect.I've been a fan, but almost reluctantly -- clearly gifted songwriters and performers, too often their stuff just scooches over the line into fragrant fromage for my taste. Songs for the General Public, their glammy 2nd album, had enjoyable tracks but was exhausting as a sequence and I usually found myself turning it off. Last year's record Everything Harmony was stronger and renewed my interest, but this record... this record!https://thelemontwigs.bandcamp.com/album/a-dream-is-all-we-know#NowPlaying

Sonically ADIAWK is a refinement rather than a left turn; the merseystreet thing is still there, but everything has been amped up: the Brian Wilson structures, Louis Shelton guitars, John/Paul close harmonies, and Bacharach strings are all wrapped up in a power pop package that sounds both immediately familiar and new. A brand new old friend.I think what really does it for me though are the songs themselves. Joy pours out of them, earnest and unapologetic, in a way that they haven't quite nailed on previous records. Every note is perfectly placed to make me smile, from the off-beat fills in the outro of Golden years to the surprising horn stabs in Help! homage Rock On.
