Someone on tumblr asked why 3.5" floppy disks seem so much more friendly (or "pleasant and edible" to use their terminology) than 5.25" floppy disks, so I wrote about it:https://www.tumblr.com/foone/750216135935492096/why-do-35-inch-floppy-disks-seem-so-much-moreTL;DR: It's because Sony.

@foone i like the big disks, i would love to have a reason to put an important file on one and bring it someplace that has the ability to read it

@foone Hi quality comments in there !"They made sure that the disc still operated if the user fiddled with the clicky thing that goes pyoing, because they understand that it is impossible for actual humans not to fiddle with the clicky thing that goes pyoing".At least some well written English (by that I mean a non-native speaker can understand it)

@foone I like the idea but [citation needed]. Some supporting evidence for the claim would be helpful.

@foone I really want to disagree with you about IBM designers because "ThinkPad" but I guess it would just prove your point :)

@foone Last time I touched 3.5" floppy is probably 25 years ago. I still occasionally remember the satisfying feel and texture of it, the satisfaction of pushing that thing into floppy drive (that "thunk" sound + physical sensation) and the soothing first sounds of read head starting its job. And the smell when you open a box of floppies. :ablobcatheart:

@foone So what I am getting from this and other conversations is Sony is great for hardware but terrible at licensing / access rules for games / entertainment content
