It's kinda depressing how tumblr is imploding now and I'm seeing half my follow list go "man, after seeing both twitter and tumblr do this, it's really showing how it's a bad idea for a social media network to be run by a company who can make arbitrary changes without user consent.anyway, here's my bsky: ..."

@foone How is “user consent” implemented in the Fediverse, or more specifically Mastodon? Anyone can run their own server and modify the code as they like (simple matter of programming) and block any other server they like?

it's weird because it's not like bsky is any more tumblr-like than mastodon. and there are activitypub-based socials designed to work more like tumblr... but nope, mastodon is scary, so when tumblr dies, we'll go to bsky. what'll happen on bsky in a year or do? don't worry about it!

@foone tbh the only reason i'm still even on bsky and tumblr, hell even check on twitter via nitter, is because all the artists that i like are on those platforms, only reason i came back to fedi was because i wanted to try and connect myself with developers more and to see if more artists that i may like set up shop here (admittedly there were more artists here than before, and i like their styles so that's good)

@godot bunch of trans women kept getting banned. One yelled really loud about it enough for the CEO to respond, and then he followed her to other platforms to keep trying to debate her.A real shit show

@foone one reason is also culture i think; i've been on here for about 5 years now, and that's actually why i've been moving in reverse to tumblr and bsky (and sometimes cohost)it's hard for me to pinpoint the specifics, but fedi feels.. tiring.. to use in a way bsky and tumblr don't; it feels like a hobby you kinda need to be distinctly into to enjoy, whereas tumblr and bsky feel like platforms where you can just, exist and post sometimespart of it for me i think is also a certain vibe on fedi where it often feels like you need to background check literally everyone you interact and their instance to a much further extent than elsewhere lest you find yourself in the centre of the next metaalso, even as someone who's been here for a while now, finding a good instance is hard; you kinda have to know someone to get on here properly especially with big instances often getting blocked i guess the TL;DR of my rambling is; everyone looks at technical reasons for why fedi is the better choice, which, well, it mostly is, but fails to look at the social factorslike, in reality the average user doesn't give a damn about the tech; instead they care about whether they feel welcome, how easy it is to get on somewhere, and whether people they know are thereoh and whether the platform actually worksand fedi consistently feels like it fails at 2 or 3 of those

@tauon nah, the avalanche had already started by then. I just said "this is happening and it's going to keep happening"
