The main purpose of advertisements is to increase consumption more and more while destroying the planet in the processEveryday brands play a mind game with us to try and increase their sales, on posters in public trainstation, at the side of the road on a massive billboards or even on the internetWe should not tolerate this :nkoHammer: :ad:

@stux Mostly advertisements are mental pollution. Beyond the first 10% I am not convinced they increase total sales. They just transfer sales from one brand to another. But being mental pollution, maybe advertising should be taxed.

@stux so true. Advertising budget has swallowed quality budget for goods and services In the name of advertising we are made subject to tracking - data monetisation- profiling and all kind of abuses destroying the planet with junk products.

@stux This is why I no longer watch tv. The ads are too numerous and even the tv shows often are promoting consumerism.

@stux Advertising is designed to create demand where no demand exists. Does anyone REALLY need a salad spinner?

@stux Serious question since #Threads is potentially looking into this: if they integrated into AP the ability to run ads on servers as a way to generate money to maintain said server, would you enable them? And based on your experience with other admins, do you think they would? Background: Meta is thinking of ways to monetize the Fediverse by supporting servers running ads and supporting micro-transactions (this is speculation as of now, re: what’s Meta’s interest in the Fediverse?)

@stux add the internet in general to those public spaces. It's all too much.
