Socialism is necessary. Yet the credibility of socialism is buried under the debris of Stalinism. How can we rescue it? https://workersliberty.org/story/2024-04-23/what-who-and-why-socialism#Socialism #history #stalinism #lenin #communism #WorkingClass #gaza #Palestine

@workersliberty Socialism and Stalinism are not the only two options; there is also Communism, which is not the same as Stalinism. Stalinism involves authoritarianism, centralized control, cult of personality consolidation of power in the hands of the Communist Party elite, suppression of political dissent, forced collectivization of agriculture, rapid industrialization through Five-Year Plans, and extensive use of state terror, including purges and political repression.

@workersliberty Communism is a classless, stateless society where the means of production are owned collectively and goods and services are distributed based on need. Many communist movements and governments have diverged significantly from the ideal of a classless, stateless society, instead perpetuating forms of state capitalism or state socialism under the guise of communism.

@vikingkong @workersliberty Actually, that's a misrepresentation. Libertarian Communists like myself believe in a stateless, classless society where individuals have equal access to resources and decision-making power. Stalinism, with its centralized authority and repression, is antithetical to my principles.

@Radical_EgoCom @vikingkong @workersliberty I think they were meaning that socialism that, promises communism always becomes stalinism. Not that communism would agree with stalinism policies. Not sure why they didn't try to clarify their stance instead of jumping to "believer gonna believe".

@roblosricos @workersliberty This oversimplifies and misrepresents Marxist and communist ideologies. Marxism and communism aim to abolish all forms of oppression, including racial oppression, and prioritize the liberation of all marginalized groups. Attributing white supremacist values to Marxism ignores the diverse and international nature of Marxist movements, which have often been led by people of color and have fought against colonialism and imperialism. P.S., I'm not a Marxist.

@Radical_EgoCom @workersliberty "economics" falls into the realm of Eurocentric/white supremacist values. monetary systems, such as wage-labor, are totally unnecessary for life, and only exist to create poverty for the masses, and wealth for the ruling class.

@roblosricos @workersliberty I'm not sure what you mean by "economics" falls into the realm of Eurocentric/white supremacist values", but I agree with everything else.

@Radical_EgoCom @workersliberty monetary system: economics. no money = no mass impoverishment, nor unfathomably disproportionate disparities in wealth, so 1% of the population can profit through wars over "resources" which must be "developed." the earth is a place of shared abundance. or it used to be, before "development" laid it to waste.it's resilient, though, but if we desire for the human race to continue here, we have to stop fucking it up.

@pinkdrunkenelephants @roblosricos @workersliberty Replacing money with a system of mutual aid, resource sharing, and voluntary cooperation would eliminate inequality, poverty, and the accumulation of resources by one or a few individuals. You are right in saying that it would not eliminate greed necessarily, since people could theoretically still be greedy in such a society, but such greedy people would have a significantly harder time being greedy than in our current greed-centered society.

@pinkdrunkenelephants @roblosricos @workersliberty You are correct. Abolishing capitalism alone would not be enough to ensure the elimination of things such as poverty and inequality. The establishment of a new economic system that is centered around mutual aid and resource sharing would be necessary not only in dealing with poverty and inequality but also in preventing the re-emergence of capitalism.

@Radical_EgoCom @pinkdrunkenelephants @roblosricos @workersliberty Also important not to conflate “money” (a medium of exchange) with “capitalism” (an ideology that prioritizes the accumulation and concentration of financial wealth and power through whatever means necessary).
