@fiore It could be a lot more than a friend. I want headmates who are federated over several bodies but maintain a mental connection and a sense of shared identity. Maybe the ability to swap bodies, too.Basically, what they have in Sense8.

@fiore Greg Egans far-future machine-society novels have stuff like this. two personalities could share the same gleisner body or you could cut out some of your personality and create a new citizen with it (plurality is never directly mentioned but being plural myself i can see how it would mesh with the systems within the novel's worlds)

@fiore I have read every single thing he has ever written and would love nothing more than to compile a list. it is no botherNovels:Permutation City (real people for half the novel, simulated people for the other half)DiasporaIncandescence (follows two storylines, one about simulated humans, one about sentient insect-like critters)Schild's Ladder (Half-and-half like permutation city, although simulated conciousness is an important concept throughout the entire book.)Collections (the short stories within the collections pertaining to simulated conciousness will be listed)Luminous (The Planck Dive)Instantiation (Has several about sentient videogame NPC's, I couldn't tell you which ones off the top of my head...)Oceanic (Riding the Crocodile, Glory, Hot Rock)If you're just in it for a discussion of simulated conciousness and gleisners (humanoid robots with human-like conciousness, but purely mechanical) I would recommend Diaspora. my favourite novel of the bunch is probably incandescence though, and permutation city was my personal first intro to Greg Egan's work. also if you want any more info or anything about anything I've listed or about Egan as an author I am obviously open to further discussion.
