       Most people that take antidepressants aren't depressed. Antidepressants boost serotonin which is the main social hormone you get it when you socialize. But most people would benefit from more serotonin in that they'd be happier. Not that everyone should be on ssris I'm not saying that. But the fact of the matter is a lot of young women are. And so imagine you're a freshman in college and you don't have any friends yet and you're kind of socially anxious, well an antidepressant will just nullify that. That's that's an example of how standard of living has increased.

Serotonin is a stress hormone and the original model proposed for why SSRIs affect depression has been disproven. We don't even know how or why they do what they do.        @kopaka That's not true. It's of huge benefit to ppl. It makes things much easier. Although, that being said, it is a drug. Arguably alcohol makes ppl feel better too.
