I learned a new foreign word today:#Tsujigiri (Japanese) "a practice when a samurai, after receiving a new katana or developing a new fighting style or weapon, tests its effectiveness by attacking a human opponent, usually a random defenseless passer-by, in many cases during nighttime"I visited Japan twice, and my sister never invited me to participate in tsujigiri. <snif>

@cosullivan Learning how to correctly pronounce the "Ts" sound was one of the many things I owe to my karate teacher. He, however, never quite figured out how to pronounce the letter "V" as he even wrote my name once as starting with a "B."

@DaddyO My ferries left from and returned to Tsawwassen, that's my advantage. The ESL teachers who were my brother's friends all corrected my pronunciation, the Japanese couldn't be bothered. The latter were more impressed that I came on my own, could touch the ceiling of a train car (many women can't) and could eat as much sushi as they could.

@DaddyO That might be why we never did Tsujigiri, nobody there would dare come near a woman 1.76 metres tall.

@DaddyO @cosullivan Brits have been calling Sevastopol "Sebastopol" since the Crimean War... presumably because the 3rd letter in "Севастополь" looks like a 'B'... or it is because, in Greek, it's "Σεβαστόπόλις"?
