@noyoushutthefuckupdad @coolboymew @sickburnbro Reminder that to be a nurse or vet tech in NY you had to pass an exam which was largely liberal talking points. it was read an emotionally charged essay about global warming or racial prejudice, and a multiple choice on what the essay tells us, basically what we learned.Shit is wild. Especially for someone that believes in climate change and not global warming. It was difficult trying to read between the lines because I'm a very technical person and can usually see propaganda tactics, or at least very skeptical of it.

It was an exam to show that I already *knew* the propaganda, or that I have now learned the propaganda after reading the passage.On the flip side I think it's a great exercise of reading comprehension to read something that isn't true, or not proven to be true, and then try to guess what the fuck the author or the test writer wants you to gather from it from their perspective that it is undeniably true.Like for example it's an essay about underwater pollution making it difficult for people who live underwater to breath. Like it's nonsense. Or how North Korea is losing it's place as a world leading country. Obvious propaganda, but what do they want you to take away from that? That North Korea is still #1, or that racism is keeping it down, etc.That would actually be a great exercise

@sickburnbro peer review is just a euphamism for gatekeeping by the major journals. there is nothing preventing researchers from punlishing independently other than the prestige and (misplaced) trust in the major journals. people assume that if a paper is peer reviewed, that it is more likely to be accuratethere is some truth to this but not much
