@DW2 US airports are a special kind of shithole compared to other first world countries. You have literal FOB immigrants who barely speak English whose job is to make sure your boarding pass has the TSAPre✅ on it, Indian wheelchair pushers that have never heard of headphones and listen to their god forsaken shit on full blast, and let's not forget the passengers. But to his point, I have had that sentiment for a while as well, interestingly about airports too. This pattern is universal, while Rome was enforcing a hard border to protect its soft interior the situation was good, but when they began fortifying cities and having shelters within the empire that's when the decline was undeniable and unstoppable. The good times were when anyone could walk up to the gate (pre 9/11) and the entire airport experience was pleasant, but nowadays there are "lounges" littered around as islands of luxury and you know decline is real. Speaking of lounges, on my last flight there was loud screaming and cursing coming from a lounge and lo and behold it was a sheboon. The brave airport security show up after 20 minutes to see what's up. I would've watched her getting tased but my flight was boarding.

@marlin @Pawlicker @DW2 In many cases, it's just as quick to drive, even if it's over that. The whole flying ritual means that you basically spend the whole day at the air port now, so unless it takes more than a day, I'd rather just drive.

@Pawlicker @DW2 @marlin I got hit with that for a few years, and I never knew why. I was only ever told "sorry we need to randomly search you", but it was every time I flew (which was around three times a year at the time). It cemented my hatred of flying.

Drove from Texas up to Ohio, then back through Iowa, down from Oklahoma, and back into Texas.Texas is a horrible place to drive. I don't know what it is about that state, but there is always traffic and detours. States like Arkansas and Tennessee (the western half) is annoying to drive through because most of it's high ways are pot holes. Florida is annoying because it's bigger than it looks on a map. It can take a full day just to drive through it, which is pretty demoralizing.

@Elliptica @Pawlicker @DW2 In my experience, it depends on your the airport, how busy and how far away it is, and whether you have Pre (I do, thank you boss man). Each flight costs me 5 hours base, 3 hours are wasted from my door to takeoff, and 2 hour from landing to my destination. So flying is only worth it, if it beats GPS estimate by 2 hours or more.
