I hate that this is the case too, my grandmother, mother and I planted one when I was young. It was the only one around.Now there are thousands on their property. It doesn't have to be arid for them to light up. I think it is part of their survival strategy, because they also seem to recover from fires faster than other trees. Stick to firs and pines.

Definitely my favorite for how they grow, their branch pattern and the bed of needles which fill the air with a relaxing and intoxicating smell.

Once a peach establishes it can do pretty well with less water. First 5 years or so it needs lots of help. Pines are beautiful but nothing deader than a pine forest. I prefer lots of native hardwood like oak on my place but we have lots of pine too. Cedars are great for windbreak around place and privacy screen if you are afflicted with neighbors

Suddenly, in late fucking April, it will decide we need another 25f night for no good fucking reason.It doesn't kill or harm the trees but it does kill all of the buds.
