@Sabex the ONLY way to have that much data to send would be voice, video, or copying (a fuckload of) packets and sending them to LG to build an ad profile

@Sabex I factory reset my samsung tv, yet somehow it still knew the wifi password. It's all lies, all the time.

My guess is it's running with a default password and someone's using it to ddos. Happens to IoT devices all the time. Especially IP cameras.

As in the excuse? Probably to ping you when a load is done, possibly also some smarthome efficiency app thing. Like it might automatically run it at night to save money.

An effort is made to not have that shit in my house. I yelled at an HVAC tech for trying to sell me a Wi-Fi thermostat

It sends you a text when the load is done. My wife got pretty excited about it so I was like Yay sure but I don't trust that shit and glad she has wised up about it as well. Oven and stove were probably sending messages into NYC tunnels for a few years

There is no good reason for 90% of it, and certainly not at the price they try to sell it.If I wanted one I'd DIY it, much safer.

I mentioned earlier today that tech peaked in the late 2000's now it's all just bloated software pozzed corponigger spyware and a surveillance tool for the state.

Really no reason not to max out the connection if it's being used for that. The more volume it pumps out the more effective it is.

@polarisera @Sabex someone needs to build an LineageOS based Android rom for these Tizen/webOS/android tvs, they should be able to boot android since they are mostly qualcomm/mediatek arm based and do an open source implementation of the hardware API to control it. if we can find an exploit through voltage spiking we can decrypt the bootloader and build a scripted method for others do the same to replace the bootloader, and then load a custom rom. Until then, use a separate wifi AP with temporary ssid to do the updates on it and then physically remove the microphones inside the TV as well as unplug the ufl connector or cut the trace on the wifi antenna.

@moomin @polarisera @Sabex The little GL.inet devices are great for this, at $25 they are fully unlocked and you can load OpenWRT on them as a supported option. What would be neat is if there was a "majordomo" application that could be hosted on a rpi type board and serve as a local API proxy to various IoT devices.
