Let it be known that we are living in a realm where Microsoft Windows is the substandard choice for the personal computer operating system. Linux Distros in the last 3 years have bridged the gap between the realm of the enthusiast/tech nerd to creating an installation that anyone with just basic computer knowledge can run/install. The only reason to choose Windows would be if you were required to run Office 2019 or you wanted it for certain game titles.

@cgarison Ironically, in the same 3 years, Windows has become a great way to run Linux distros, even multiple distros at the same time.

@justinerickson This has definitely been said for long time, but the latest versions of the Debian Distros have really hit their stride making the transition to Linux easier than ever. Plus the Pop!OS download that I just installed on a 12 year old StinkPad brought that old computer to life. Definitely a game changer. If Pop!OS has come this far from I last used it in 2020, I am anxious to see what Linux Mint has done in their releases. I haven't touched it since 2019.

@radix023 I have to admit that my Ford software only runs on Windows on well, which is what set me on this journey. I bought a new laptop for my vehicle hacking fun so the old hardware (Stinkpad T430s) just got rolled into a permanent Linux box.

@cgarison @justinerickson even the manufacturers are getting into it, the amd gpu installs are working well for me on some relatively new laptop hardware, but more importantly on a gaming system... still some issues w/ that laptop, but I'm loving linux mint: install, boot, use. I almost tried out Pop!OS, you just sold me to try it out.

@cgarison I said all of these same things 15 years ago. And I have been rooting for Linux ever since. But Microsoft knows very well that Office is their linchpin. And all other developers follow suit. And most line of business apps focus primarily on just Windows, not even Mac. But I’ll admit Linux distros keep making it easier and with web apps and cloud services, it’s easier for Linux to make some advancements on the market and more developers are making Linux versions of their software.
