Heading to U-haul this weekend to pick up some moving boxes so that I can start packing up the non- essentials and get rid of the bookcases and use that room for storage. Once I get most of that done I can figure out what size trailer I'll need to make my move when I retire.I may also just decide to rent a storage unit to put those boxes in to make the move easier and keep the nosy neighbors at bay.

@KillerMule I can't believe the prices of storage units, $100/month for a 5x10. Debating on taking "stuff" on my initial trip and putting it in storage where I plan on moving, then after I acquire a place, furnish it, come back for the rest of my crap, then finally take my stuff out of storage, or just renting a trailer and doing it all in one shot. I've never moved more than 1-2 miles before.

@Smeeagain I learned a pretty valuable lesson between losing a parent and moving cross country, and I'm a printed book lover. Books are probably near the heaviest things you move and can take up a lot of space. I have my rare and special books, but between that, and a whole shop full ot tools, I could not afford to move it all. We had to lighten the load and make really hard decisions on what went and what didn't. But it felt good getting lighter. Just do what you feel you can on that.

@KillerMule My mother belong to her share of Book of the month clubs, and when we moved her we had to take all those hardcover books only to have her give them to the library where she moved.I've moved family members from NYC to LI and from LI to Maine, I just haven't moved myself that far. I plan on just taking some books, my pics, cd's and clothes and maybe some kitchen appliances. I'll buy new furniture where ever I lay my head.

@EarlThePearls @KillerMule My father who was a low level hoarder I had to pack two Uhauls with the liftgate. Boxes of empty coffee cans, boxes of magazines and books, 300lb.s of weights, broken player piano, barber chair, and other assorted pieces of furniture. When I helped my brother, besides furniture we had t 2 goats, one horse, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a few chickens and ducks. Both moves were LI to Maine.
