I’ve been watching the college football transfer market the past month. Hundreds of thousands available if your kid is good enough.Anyone think this is going to have positive consequences on high school sports?It will notThe competition to get to D1 sports was already rough. Now the cash brings back seniors that would have gone to the draft. Now they can make more as a senior than whatever pro league if they aren’t a high round pick. This means fewer spots for the kiddos.

My oldest son was too short to play D1. His middle brother was being recruited but in the chase for a scholarship he was need yo with 4 concussions his senior year and had to retire there. Little brother said high school is plenty.Issue being, the kids that are on the verge of D1 will absolutely murder themselves just to have a shot at the “big time.” Some will blow out their shoulders, like my kid and some will turn their head into paper-mâché like my other boy. All for what?

@Truthy maybe - not all D1 athletes are making six figures. Especially in football- way too many players and it depends on the school you attend. Not all D1 schools have donors willing or able to cough up millions to pay players. It is also impacting the Universities as well. Big donors are donating less to the general fund/ scholarship funds and giving more to the NIL collectives. Hurting budgets

@kgibson I’ve been wondering if those 2 donation streams cross or not? Obviously I’m talking major conference teams.My boy was being recruited by Tulsa and N Texas. Not exactly world beaters. Those NIL deals are probably in the 4-5 digits for the bigger players.

@Truthy I know for UNC there are donors who would donate six figures to scholarships and university funds (2 separate funds) who are now donating less to those and more to collectives.

@Truthy I went to ECU , familiar with Tulsa for sure. Solid program and 4-5 figure deals seem about right. My niece goes to UT - she was friends with a backup RB who was making $600,000 - he transferred to Cal for more $ and playing time
