Few nights ago in bed I was wondering; "is a plastic bottle basically the same as a dinosaur?"Luckily we have the internet and now I know! It's not  "the petroleum we use to make plastics actually comes from ancient ocean floors, where there weren't any dinosaurs"

@stux Maybe a plesiosaur carcass slipped into the muck of algae and plankton that we eventually extruded as crude oil. They're dinosaur-adjacent.

@stux makes me think of that time i was watching a video where either a real person or a fictional character said that all the water we drink is a little bit recycled dinosaur pee and I've never stopped thinking about that

@stux Here's the question I pondered. Why is oil not renewable? Why is it not being formed rn? Answer-- Because NOW there are microbes that eat the dinosaurs (or whatever sea life) when it dies instead of letting it turn into oil. Now ya know. 😀

@stux Randall Munroe looked into this for #XKCD and apparently the answer is more "not much, but maybe a little":https://what-if.xkcd.com/101/
