       I'm not really into supporting either side in the "copyright maximalists" vs "machine learning techbros" lawsuits.If techbros win, copyright becomes largely irrelevant. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. But that means trade secrets become incredibly valuable. If you keep you ML model secret, you can milk the the rest of the world with API fees.

       @suihkulokki If current copyright law ends up becoming irrelevant, it's a chance to replace it with something better. If the maximalists win, only Disney will be able to afford to publish anything at all, and they'll make sure it stays that way. It's the latter of these outcomes that must be avoided.

       A creative Commons solution would be to insist that building the models from copyrighted content is fair use only if the resulting model and and it's building methods is also made public. Such laws are however unlikely to emerge from the aftermath of the lawsuits...
