I don't know how many times I've heard "if you want to see more, hit the bell, or don't because youtube is a liar scumbag" but I know I've heard "then put my channel in your RSS reader" exactly zero timesseems like a missed opportunity

like yes not a lot of people use an RSS reader nowadays, but it reliably collects subscriptions, and maybe hearing "RSS reader" would encourage the technically minded in one's audience to consider using one

complaining about something then not offering working solutions is cathartic but like, you could suggest an actual solution too?until using RSS stops the recommendation system driving traffic to christofascist extremists and google pays attention, anyway

@izaya there’s also no RSS reader on my TV so I’d need something inbetween my TV and YouTube at the very least.

@mattl plumbing links into kodi over the network is pretty straightforward, though it has a (minimal) RSS reader built inactually, I think the native client for youtube may actually use RSS to fetch your subscriptions, but I've never signed in to find out

@izaya I’ve long since stopping using Kodi, alas. I don’t want to have to sysadmin my TV.

@mattl I have been informed that if you're stuck with an android TV, newpipe works on them, so there's a dedicated youtube RSS client for all your suffering needs

@mattl You got me there, no idea how you'd get an RSS reader on one of those. It's also barely related to what I was originally saying, but it got a laugh out of me, so there's that.

@izaya @ezio yeah they're still thereNobody asks you to put them in your RSS because nobody knows the feature is still there. The feature is pushed almost nowhere, and the major sites where you might want to have a RSS feed doesn't actually support it and you have to go through another service like Nitter. On a lot of site you actively have to search for them or Google them in some cases. Use a more powerful RSS reader like Liferea on Linux, as it can somehow find feeds (and use them) that no other readers can somehowBarely any sites uses it > it's never advertised them they does > Most browsers doesn't even tell you anymore there's one > Nobody knows it exists > Nobody uses it > Rinse and repeatWhat a sad state of affair and the continuing shittification of the InternetBut thank god for those god awful browser notifications so that my dad's tablet can beep 20 times at 9AM because people who can't use the web will instead click yes on every crap they see. Wow, so useful, what an amazing replacement </s>

@CauseOfBSOD they used to let you just ... export all your subscriptions as an OPML to import into your RSS reader, but they seem to have removed that at some point.
