If I opened a brick and mortar freedom focused computer store at the mall (think Linux, BSD, System76, Purism, Pine64, etc.), what would you want to see and what would make it worthwhile to shop there?

@daniel Include some raspberry pi hobbyist stuff. Not a lot of profit but it will draw interest.

@danielAre you seriously thinking of doing this? A couple of things. A really really cool distro running machine with an awesome wallpaper sitting next to a bland Windows machine. A really old laptop running a light weight distro outperforming a Windows machine of the same era.Proof that hardware can run longer than 2 or 3 years like the software guys want people to believe.

@Big_Diggity I'm mildly entertaining the idea. I was at the mall tonight and thought, "What if I put a Linux store right next to the Apple store?" Things I would do:-Sell new computers with free OS's-Convert/update/repair computers-Have displays for people to demo-A counter of "# of computers liberated!"-A coffee/lounge/forum corner-Classes for education-A few museum pieces-Great quotes all over-Plushies of Tux, Puffy, etc.Give me some more ideas!

@daniel an online store that ships to Australia. - An open source supported tick (for products that require no propriety software for all hardware to function). - The ability to select a stripped down version of the operating system (1: text & drivers only, 2:gui, drivers and no applications). I suspect a brick and mortar store of this sort wouldn't be profitable 😕

@daniel @Big_Diggity the idea is really cool. I would like to have a version with CAELinux, which has a lot of software for science and engineering. For me, frankly speaking is very tricky to install Ubuntu, that is why I use a virtual machine in Windows. To install CAE Linux is almost impossible because I think it has 2 files and I don't even know how to select those files. So in conclusion I would love a PC with CAElinux with a guarantee that I can update any current version.#ubuntu

@marcosgutierrez @Big_Diggity You know, that is cool and I wouldn't have considered it. There are a lot of engineering folks who kinda hate the status quo but don't know about free alternatives. If they had a place to learn about workflows and provide feedback/funding to developers, they might be able to come out ahead without proprietary software.

I'm leaning towards a 501c. There would be products/services but it would be cool to have volunteers with a community supported feel. Maybe @ajroach42 can offer some insight?

@daniel because you might loose a lot of money? I'd do a viability study first.

@daniel @Big_Diggity I would love this. There is a mall in Nashville that has an Apple Store and used to have a Microsoft Store right above it on the next floor. I loved going into both, seeing the hardware, trying new apps, etc. A Linux store with these things would be AWESOME!
