@zemichi my local arcade only had one each cabinet of MK/SF2, but they put a TV on top of each one and used it as another video output so the surrounding crowds could all see the gameplay.

@deadheat @zemichi I quickly learned to do the fireball motion as a kid, but I still can't consistently do the dragon punch motion in SF2, even in the current year with modern controllers. starting with Alpha, they made the special moves easier to pull off, which I'm grateful for.

@noyoushutthefuckupdad @zemichi The good thing about not being able to pull off the special moves is that you never lost by trying to look cool winning, and just focused on beating the opponent as efficiently as possible with the H punch/H kick (this is mostly cope though haha)I was able to do hadoukens just fine on the snes, my issue was the arcade machines... maybe the sticks were damaged since the kids were fighting with the machine just as fiercely as the characters on the screen while playing, literally punching the buttons etc

@deadheat @noyoushutthefuckupdad I learned to do special moves at a young age because my dad was insanely competitive at street fighter.The only thing I didn't learn was fatalities in mortal Kombat, that was beyond me.Anyway here's what metrocenter looked like in 1988, 4 years off from when I used to regularly go. I miss malls from the 90s. I never thought I would because they seemed like the most shit place to hang out in high school, but I don't think we expected they'd be as empty and depressing as most of them are today.

@djsumdog @deadheat @noyoushutthefuckupdad What bothers me is that there used to be places to hang out at everywhere. I had a local game store, a retro game store, an arcade, a sports restaurant, a movie theater, all localized in a 1mile area. But past 2005 there were no places to hang out anymore, even if I wanted to hang out it felt weird. Best way to describe it is that the "vibes were off".

@zemichi @deadheat @djsumdog now you can hang out on the Fediverse (the best choice), or normalfag sites like Discord and Twitter.I'm a huge autist, so I don't mind spending all my time on the internet, but it's got to be agony for the majority of the population that enjoys IRL human interaction. and malls were a good place for that.

Even the parks and other corners where kids used to hang out after school since forever are empty now, the streets where I grew up playing soccer are now just for the cars and the cats. Probably a mix of the new generations growing up isolated on the internet and also the fact that people are having less and less kids.
