@mhjohnson What's really sad is that before the diesel marine engine (and to a lesser extent the steam engine), whales were able to affect worldwide communication in the lower frequency bands. However, the ubiquity of ocean liners has created a massive amount of noise pollution in the frequencies that many species of whale use to communicate.Imagine the societal effect if one day the Internet were to be turned off, never to be turned on again.
