Does there exist a brief write-up of how content is federated out? Do different #ActivityPub implementors federate content differently? (@stesnac suggests so!)Here's my head-canon at present... when a note is created, the note is sent to all followers. If users are mentioned, the note is also sent to those users' inboxes. If a note is addressed to the public collection, do it just get blasted to all known instances' inboxes?https://snac.bsd.cafe/stesnac/p/1704724939.498114#fedidev

@oranadoz @stesnac thanks! Time to revisit this series of posts. It was crucial in my initial understanding when I first looked into this last year.

@devnull @stesnac One thing you will find is that that severs "relay" posts to other servers. If you just blast out a post to every server that you know about they may be rejected if they are not relevant to something on the server. An instance that is interested in all your messages is going to send a Follow request to object "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" and then accept messages from the actor that responds with the Accept message.

@JsonCulverhouse @stesnac that makes complete sense, it would be a little silly if instances just blindly accepted any content sent their way 😅I guess the question from my end really is, how is content federated to my instance if not via a boost or reply? Sometimes I see content completely unrelated, but it could be relayed (I think I have one set up)...

@devnull @stesnac here's what the spec says: "Additionally, if an object is addressed to the Public special collection, a server MAY deliver that object to all known sharedInbox endpoints on the network."
