Oops. Someone cut out the coat of arms of Cardinal Johannes de Turrecremata. The Cardinal lived from 1388–1468 AD, and was, among other things, the owner of a manuscript library. And parts of this library found its way eventually into the Vatican. And here, someone disagreed with Johannes de Turrecremata, and neatly cut out his coat of arms making it a cardinal's coat of arms devastation. A recognizable hole in the page was a message: you are erased from history, a gap.#bookhistory #histodons

@dbellingradt Or maybe it was needed somewhere? Say a scrapbook of arms?

@tomminieminen more likely a scrapbook of unwanted images. A #censorship collection.

@dbellingradt unrelated question, but the Vatican library has its watermark on this photography. what rights can the Vatican reserve seeing this is not transformative and it's a historic book?

@kaia @dbellingradt there’s even worse cases with „database rights“ where you can suddenly receive copyright for public domain data just because you collect it in a db
