@clive Looking at that drawing however, it appears that the “stop fittings” and “stop pads” are designed to top the door plug from falling IN to the plane. Now, maybe there were bolts holding the pads to the fittings, but I don’t see them listed on the diagram.

@clive so crazy. I can only imagine it’s called a plug because of the conversion design of the plane to add those “extra” seats. It’s still super ridiculous that an optional feature would cause such an important part of the plane be called a “plug!”

@clive The most telling detail for me was that the adjacent passenger’s shirt was sucked out by depressurization! And he wasn’t in the window but the middle seat!! #yikes #whatIsHappening

@bhawthorne Yep -- airplane doors are, unless I'm mistaken, designed so they essentially cannot fall outwards unless something has gone structurally wrong with them, hence the injunction -- when seated in an exit row -- "are you capable of following the instructions?", since actually opening an exit row door in the event of an emergency requires one to turn the door sorta sidewaysFor it to bust open suggests other structural flaws ...

@clive My point was that based on that diagram, the door plug seems to be designed opposite to that. Nothing in that diagram shows any structural elements that would prevent the plug from falling OUT.
