#Twitter hashtag for those who mute.Reiterating this important point:These were so-called "financial insecurity" voters. They could afford to take off work for this trip. Could afford travel costs, lodging, dining, and drinks. Could afford specially printed T-shirts and flags. Could afford cameras, military cosplay accessories, weapons, and ammunition.Their votes were not about financial insecurity to begin with.

@_L1vY_ I can't remember who it was that wrote it, but I remember reading that Trump's base was "small business tyrants" and so far everything we've seen tracks.Actual poor people don't get to vote that much but even the ones whiter than sour cream tend to vote Democratic.

@MyLittleMetroid @_L1vY_ Is "financial insecurity" a synonym for poverty? Genuine question.I'm no native english speaker and thought that "fin. insecurity" may cover a wider range of people, including well-being middle class that is scared of losing their wealth, e.g. small businesses suffering globalization and competition (we have plenty of such in Italy and many vote for far-right and racist parties). Also reminds me of the Q-anon myth of nesara/gesara which was then popular in those groups

@Eh__tweet @MyLittleMetroid There was a broadly spread interpretation here of 2016 Trump voters as primarily being low-income and trying to protect themselves from poverty by voting for someone awful. This was not really the case.

@_L1vY_ @MyLittleMetroid For sure. That's a common narrative from all populist movements worldwide that pretend they are "for the people". But it's propaganda.Yet, it is important to understand the real, even if emotional, motivations behind the choice to vote and support such movements. It's part of the job needed to defeat them.

@Eh__tweet @MyLittleMetroid Here's the thing. There are also PLENTY of BIPOC people struggling financially. Very much so in fact. And yet the vast majority of them, particularly Black people, did NOT vote for Trump. The underlying problem is NOT "financial insecurity." It is bigoted entitlement.Entitled bigots will blame ANY discomfort or struggle they experience for their actions, but the real issue is their entitled bigotry.

@Eh__tweet @MyLittleMetroid I'm saying this as a poor white. They did not have to choose hate because they're poor and white. They chose it because they hate.
