What’s the craziest think you incorporated into your #emacs workflow?

@mms I've written static web page generator thingies in Emacs Lisp ... mostly as proof of concept, but it worked so well that some are still running 10+ years later 😕

@mms I have lots of fun figuring out ways to do things in Emacs. :) I run EmacsConf mostly from within Emacs ( https://emacsconf.org/2023/talks/emacsconf/ ) . I use Emacs as my audio and video editor ( https://sachachua.com/blog/2024/01/emacsconf-backstage-making-lots-of-intro-videos-with-subed-record/ ). Just today I used Emacs and Spookfox to extract my mom's family tree from a website with insufficient export capabilities. Yay Emacs!

> "What’s the craziest thing you incorporated into your #emacs workflow? What amazing things you do inside eMacs?"@amszmidt @mms I work with CSV data directly, not often, but more often than anyone who would prefer to use something like Excel or Python+Pandas to work with CSV files would ever expect. When combined with ordinary keyboard macros and the "calc" calculator I can usually work out a simple macro for manipulating or aggregating data in a just a minute, simply through trial and error (i.e. the Lisp way of developing software). It fortunately/unfortunately (depending on your point of view) keeps me from learning the Pandas API because every time I open the Pandas documentation to try and figure out how to do what I want to do, I think of a way to do it with Emacs first and just do it that way.

@mms I teach six or seven courses every year, with roughly a thousand students enrolled overall. So I write dozens of letters of recommendations each year.I wrote some #EmacsLisp to automate the whole process in #OrgMode. Can't overstate the increase in efficiency—and decrease in stress.Should I make a video about it?

@mms I used to provision a cluster of services with emacs calling out to the aws client, and using functions on top emacs windowing functions to display server states on the whole cluster on demand :)

@jameshowell @mms Absolutely. I, personally, would prefer a blogpost or an article, but video would be OK too.

@mms Not so crazy, but it always gives me a little wow feeling when I'm editing a #hledger journal with (ledger-mode and) flycheck-hledger and I see real time error indicators for typos or even the smallest decimal error in a transaction amount or account balance.I also heavily use terminal emacs, multiple emacs daemons and clients scoped to individual projects for better context/scope/durability, and dtach for connecting to remote emacsen (much simpler than tmux).#emacs #plaintextaccounting
