@Sherri_Ingrey That's an incredible quote. My mother didn't start scapegoating me until I was 15 and she couldn't stand all the shit decisions she had made (my father was dead, otherwise she would have scapegoated him). I got the fuck out of there as fast as I could, left home at age 16.

@susansiens the first words I remember my mother saying were "I never wanted you". When I was four and in preschool, I went to my teacher and asked her what ERGOT was, and when she asked in horror where I learned that word, I said "my mommy told me she used it on me". .....

@Sherri_Ingrey Oh, Sherri, I am so sorry. My mother wanted me and got pregnant without telling my father she planned to do so. The doctor even gave her an out and told her I was a tumor. I was her special baby and when I was little she was very loving and she made our family's life very special. Then came mid-life and she went nuts. She basically abandoned me and left me to raise myself at age 12, though she did provide a roof and some food. I look back and I'm embarrassed for her and her stupid behavior.By ergot, did she mean she tried a self-induced abortion? As an aside, my insane sister told her oldest son she never wanted him -- my mother remembered telling her they would help her have an abortion, and she refused because she wanted the baby -- he hung himself a few days after he turned 23.

@susansiens That's exactly what she meant. Much later in life my dad told me I "fell" down the gated basement stairs twice before my second birthday (I have a small scar on my bottom lip still) and he always thought she pushed me or let me fall. Luckily I had an incredible paternal grandpa that educated me and radicalized me, and a father that adored me. Other than having to make a lot of my own clothes (I won awards both for best dressed and sewing so it wasn't awful, it was good) and never having more than one Barbie and Ken, I never went without food or shelter or safety, except my mother was unsafe physically and psychologically. My mother went to our tiny lake cottage every year from May to October, so after I left home, I would move home to take care of my dad and be with him, and I eventually reconciled that to see him I had to put up with her (I was in a group for adult children of abuse by 19) so I adulted up and did just that. She never hit me after I was 13 and I shook her til her dentures rattled and told her I would throw HER down the basement stairs if she ever tried it again.

@Sherri_Ingrey @susansiens My mother almost never spoke and then died at 41 of metastasized breast cancer, while hearing the angels. I often wonder what happened to her before she married my dad at 23. I often wonder what happened to all of our mothers (and so, us) to make them such reluctant mothers. What happened to me was that I saw what my parents were like and how they treated us and I never wanted to have kids then I did anyway and had to give up my son. ALL THE MOTHERS!!! Who will support us if we don't support each other? šæ

@LaylaAlexandrovna @susansiens I know what happened to my mother and her two sisters. No one in the family talked about it until my mother was 90 with only her one triplet sister alive of the 8 of them. My "pillar of the community" maternal grandfather sexually abused them. Elsie, the oldest, remained his concubine even after his second marriage until she commited suicide at 40. The youngest only had to give him blow jobs from the time they hit menstruation and consider themselves "lucky" he didn't exercise his paternal rights and take their virginity. He told them that. He wore my grandmother out with 8 live births and 12 stillbirths/miscarriages. If the boys tried to intervene in any way they were beaten black and blue. The whole family but one were mean as fuck alcoholics.

@FemaleIsNotAFeeling @Sherri_Ingrey @susansiens Yes, he was adopted privately so they knew who my fam was. His adopted mum contact my self-mother when I was living in Japan and I met him when he was 17. He's now 47. We have a good relationship considering. I wish he lived nearby though. So thanks to him I have two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, some of whom I see occasionally! Offspring with almost no responsibility! LOL I was one of the lucky ones in the adoption schmozzel.

@FemaleIsNotAFeeling @Sherri_Ingrey @susansiens Also don't get me wrong. Lucky as I was to meet and relate to my son, giving him up was the most hellish thing I ever did in my life and it still resonates in my emotional sphere. For me having an abortion some years later was nothing in comparison.

@PATRIOT64 I had an extremely toxic mother and figure that you get two choices with them: you become an obsessive overachiever or a drug addict.

@Sherri_Ingrey @PATRIOT64 I am sure someone has said this before, but her mothering wasn't right and it wasn't fair, but you are still here being right and fair, while I assume she is gone. It matters.

@PATRIOT64 lucky you. I never even had a nurturing grandmother my paternal one was a whining bitch and the other one died from being worn out by childbearing. I can't hate men, since men raised me . I loved my gentle father and his dad deeply. They were rocks. And fun.

@Sherri_Ingrey .... I am so sorry to hear that but would like to compliment you on the person you seem to be today after going through all that happy horse shit.. I I had a very loving family but I was the one that messed up my life as a Young Man.. matter of fact there was an overabundance of love in my family at least on my mother's side My Father's Side were old Sicilians that for the most part didn't show emotion

@LaylaAlexandrovna @Sherri_Ingrey @susansiens I can't imagine anyone here thinking it's an easy thing to place a child into another home with an adoptive family. You didn't "give him up" you gave him a better life than you must've been able to provide at the time. I'm really glad you got to connect with him later and still have contact with him now. I don't have children myself, but I know it's something powerful. I can imagine there is a lot more than words can say that goes along with it...and you must feel so much. Big hugs and much love to you ā¤

@Sherri_Ingrey @susansiens My mother repeatedly told me that she never wanted me as well, along with how I ruined her entire life. Meanwhile she tried living through me vicariously and ruined MY life for much of school.

@extremebirdnerd @susansiens my mother was jealous of me not so much the academics, which I excelled at, but when I got 12 and pretty and popular, she hated that.
