       The only reason we're not working 20 hour work weeks despite the tremendous gains in productivity is that our governments spend the wealth that should accrue to us and take it through inflation so we will never notice. Increasing productivity should lead to falling prices. The prices we pay for goods and services should be less than they were in the 1950s. Instead they are far higher due to inflation.
