@picofarad According to Alamy - back in 1953https://www.alamy.com/cincinnati-ohio-c-1953-an-employee-of-the-crowsley-corporation-operates-a-light-gun-on-the-monitor-console-on-the-new-computerized-volscan-air-traffic-control-system-image559093131.htmlI wonder why they shaped it like a "gun".In the early 1970s we had a light pen. The cable was about the same diameter as the picture. It went back to the computer cabinet.Maybe they had to put the light sensor into the gun & process it a bit before going down the cable.
