Time for the first #Linux and #OpenSource News video of 2024!In this one, #RedHat is also looking at optimizing packages, at the cost dropping older CPUs, #Fedora wants to do the same, but without leaving anyone behind, #Mozilla is pivoting towards #AI, Linux reaches almost 4% market share on the desktop, and #GNOME develops an official extension, which leaves me baffled:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FufN3c68nPg

@thelinuxEXP Mozilla feels like a company that wants to go full corpo but doesn't.

@udittlamba It’s really weird. I wish the guys heading Thunderbird right now did the same kind of revival work for Firefox, they have been amazing at making the email client super relevant again, maybe they could help the browser get better as well.I guess they are working for different structures / subsidiaries, though

@thelinuxEXP @udittlamba I feel like Firefox should cut off from Google (or at least not treat it like main source of funding) and go full on being community focused. This is what is different from Thunderbird. But I am not anything near a financial expert or someone who can give advices.

@didek @thelinuxEXP @udittlamba I think Thunderbird doesn't ga é the burden of having to develop its Web engine.

@didek I don't like Mozilla being mainly funded by its competitor either, but to be fair the problem of Firefox is not that has Google as default search engine (and as @udittlamba was saying it's hard to say no to that amound of money, especially if they are the only thing that keeps you alive)@thelinuxEXP
