@GreenZeta There’s nothing more humane than eating an animal that tastes good

@GreenZetaDomesticated animals are kind of a different situation, to be fair. And selectively breeding animals that couldn't otherwise exist in nature, then carefully keeping them alive by feeding them and sheltering them from predators, throws even another wrinkle into the situation. Humans are complex animals, and we do complex things.

@chanon that's how all slavers describe their actions.

@chanon I know them from history. They make statements very similar to what you wrote.

@GreenZetaSure, but they erroneously make such statements about humans. I feel immense compassion towards animals. I'm even frequently vegetarian. But animals aren't humans.

@GreenZeta the domestication of pet animals at least in the scenario of cats/dogs came about as a symbiotic relationship through evolution. With dogs it goes back to hunter-gatherer times where wolves would follow nomadic tribes and feed off their waste, getting closer to the point they are just peacefully living alongside humans, offering protection while being fed and warmed. With cats it comes from the advent of agriculture, as cats were placed around granaries to eat rodents, and chilled.

@GreenZetaBecause animals are not humans. Saying the slavers were wrong to treat humans like livestock seems like a solid enough argument to me, lol.

@chanon Slavers thought their slaves weren't the same as humans. How do you know the same won't be said of animals?

@GreenZetaI don't. If animals are eventually proven to be sentient, then I'll issue a mea culpa. But until then, I'll pet the soft kitty and eat the tasty chicky nuggies.I'm definitely in favor of treating animals more humanely though. It's the least we could do.

@GreenZetaI'll make a "break glass in the event chanon was wrong" frame with a hand written apology inside. I'll put it in my will that my descendents must keep it hung up somewhere where people can see it.
