Why do Americans put the dollar symbol first?$100My brain: Dollar hundredIn much of Europe, we just shorten the currency to two letters, like kr for krone/krona and write it like:100 krWhy is it $100 and not 100 dl or 100$?A currency is a unit. You put those after the number.

@thor We do use a multicharacter dollar symbol after the number, like 100USD. For a single symbol, I've seen it before the number in other currencies too, like the yen.
