I disagree. The F-23 that never saw production because it was beat out by the F22 is a much better looking aircraft. A few things: -the F23 was Northrop's baby. They also built the B-2 stealth bomber which the US bought. The B2 turned out to be an expensive venture in terms of maintenance, so it put a damper on giving Northrop any more contracts.-The F-23 had a new unproven weapons deliver system and the powers that be didn't feel like experimenting with anything new in terms of weapons deliver.-The F-22 had the new thrust vector afterburners which WOW'd everyone. Honestly, it makes the aircraft capable of some crazy maneuvers. The F-23 did not have this new gimmick. Although the F23 is very maneuverable, the F22 had the extra edge in that respect.As for the number sequencing, the US military tries to follow a linear order without giving any secrets away.
