I have multiple family members with major medical problems right now, and it's all so frustrating.Back in 2000, I was the executive producer of a site called CareGiverZone, and it feels like not a single thing has gotten better since then. It's still every family on their own even though you know millions of people must have already dealt with the same caregiving problems.

@grammargirl I'm so sorry. It's bad enough to have the actual health problems and worries without *gestures wildly* :(

@grammargirl I don't think it has gotten better. I've had a series of spine fusions before, during, and post Covid. The quality change is shockingly worse, even 3 years afyer the peak of the pandemic. As my doc says, everyone who could, left medicine. There are huge gaps in care and assistance. I'm sorry that you are in this situation. ❤️

@claudiac Thanks, yeah, it does seem worse, and I've read about a lot of good people leaving medicine or thinking about leaving. I feel for them too.

@grammargirl It’s definitely worse. I just spent 10 months (with help, even!) trying to get movement on a family member’s dementia diagnosis and move to memory care and am only seeing progress now. Many fewer options than there were 4 years ago. Best of luck in your search!

@mwr Thanks! I love that concept of having healthcare students as caregivers. Care.com also makes it easy to find caregivers and friendly visitors. My person doesn't want a stranger in her house right now (and I totally understand that feeling), but that may change if it's the difference between being able to be in her own home or not.

@grammargirl Sorry to hear you're going through this. And yes, it should be so much easier.

@grammargirl @etherdiver My position is that health insurance is a parasite. It sucks money and time out of both the healthcare providers and recipients, making everything cost more than it should and also take longer than it should, as well as costing patients and advocates far too much effort. I hope your path is reasonably smooth.

@zceline Thanks you. At some level, it's comforting to know that we haven't missed some great solution out there.
