@ThatCrazyDude Oh, I misunderstood. You're talking about the EZ RJ style where the wires poke out the end so you know they're all the way through vs the old kind where you have to cut the conductors to the exact length. Obviously EZ RJs are superior. I thought you meant TIA-568B (the correct one) vs TIA 568A (The uncircumcised philistine's choice)

@ReadyKilowatt yeah, I meant the plugs, not the wiring. I never used those pass-trough or "EZ" ones so I'm asking. Anyways, I've ordered me a bag of those, so I guess I'll know on Sunday 😂

@ThatCrazyDude The nice thing about them is you can cut the jacket so the conductors are way too long and still get the jacket into the back of the connector. Much easier to sort out the colors too. You should use a crimp tool that has a knife on the end to cut them off properly, but a good sharp x-acto blade can cleave them off evenly.

@ThatCrazyDude pretty sure that a regular cable will be fine in nearly all scenarios. Straight through isn't really necessary

@ThatCrazyDude @ReadyKilowattUsing passthrough RJ-45 connectors is like finally having cheat codes for a video game you've been playing wrong for years.

@ThatCrazyDude you should follow T568A. That's the most widely used pin out. For both sides of an Ethernet cable

@Wy7usa @ThatCrazyDude @ReadyKilowatt Threw out all the old connectors I had when discovered the pass through ones. Just have to watch out for the odd shittily made one though.

@ThatCrazyDude third option: don't field terminate patch cords. Your time is worth more than the potential savings.

@fry that's valid too. But only till you gotta run them through a hole in a concrete wall, in which case you'll always go with 6mm bit instead of 20mm 😉

@ThatCrazyDude I hear that. I guess it should be "avoid field terminating patch cords if possible." My second rule (well, more of a guideline), would be: If you're running a permanent cable, terminate it on jacks on both ends and use preterminated patch cords to plug into the devices on each end.
