My fellow Americans: If you're genuinely interested in increasing voter turnout, there are a few things you can do: -volunteer to register new voters-volunteer with a local candidate you like to do phone banking, or door knocking, or signature gathering -pressure your Democratic representatives to adopt policies that will actually attract the interest of the 1/3 of eligible voters who never vote (there's a long list of policies supported by at least 60% of Americans but which have been disdained by both parties for decades. Marijuana legalization is just one example)-vote in Democratic primaries for candidates who support such policiesThat's pretty much it. Yelling at politically astute leftists about their correct assessment of the extremely bleak situation is going to have either zero effect or negative effect.

@msquebanh @pkw @SallyStrange Yeah, as an an older dude in the US, I can assure you that I talk to people every day, friends, acquaintances, etc... who are tired of corporate shit all over the two party system, and pretty much have vowed to never vote for another corporate candidate again. Many of these people simply don't vote because of the choices. I do believe we will never be able to vote our way out of this, so what's left is depression and hopelessness.

The silver lining of almost every single thing being fucked up in our society is that no matter where you are or what you're doing, there's likely something you can do. Could be big or small. Hard or easy. But there's something.

@msquebanh @SallyStrange @pkw The one thing I still believe in is community. And I am building it in this new place I moved to 18 months ago. And I have found some. So I agree completely with that, but I am in my late 50s and tired of starting over again every 5 years. Just tired of it.

To me, this is just as important, maybe more so, than my day job where I get paid to design infrastructure that prevents soil erosion and water pollution. Keep on keepin on, as the kids used to say

In general I see very little to live for here in the US, and I'm STUNNED the masses aren't pissed enough to march on Washington 40 million strong. Instead we just got some fascists attacking the capital building. Voting isn't going to get us the nice things because politicians are paid NOT to give things to us. They need a STRONG and CLEAR message.
