poast tv runs so fucking fast with the gpus, i'm super stoked to invite more streaming on the platform. we definitely can't handle jim levels of chat yet (thats the bottleneck) but we can definitely handle the viewership. onward and upward. maybe we can utilize IRC for chat like twitch does

@RatPoster @tyler @Heil_Honkler the guy who made the plugin chose prosody as the xmpp chat server he wanted to use for it which is fine if you dont have 500 people watching a stream. if i do record stream or josh or anybody last year tryin to stream anything it locks up the entire page because it's trying to poll the chat plugin which makes the entirety of the site hang until it starts getting a response. prosody is a single threadded xmpp server but it's highly extensible and works literally out of the box with no config so i understand its use case. i had a pretty active issue thread on his github and it seems they have chosen to offload chat to 'other servers' instead of just replacing the fucking server and exposing the config options for peertube admins. so we need irc and we need it yesterday

Like seriously it was the perfect chat protocol, it worked wonders during the dial-up era, and could handle a metric fuckload of people all sharing pirated movies, anime, and cracked programs

@GatorTime @RatPoster @tyler @Heil_Honkler irc is able to handle 10-15k people on a cpu from 25 years ago. there is no overhead, the irc protocol supports slow mode, passworded chat, moderation and everything the use of xmpp and in specific prosody for something meant to support a lot of viewership via webtorrent originally still astounds meif i have to pay someone to make us a plugin, i will. but it needs to be IRC based

we have access to dozens of the tesla p4's we're using and can just pop them in cheap i3 servers or 15+ year old E3 servers as runners. scaling is a non issue anymore. we just need to fix chat and poast tv can support jim streams no sweat

It became retards idling and whining if anyone typed.Then out of nowhere everything was on Discord or Matrix or Whatever, and every website forum started shutting down and redirecting to a subreddit or Discord.Who do I blame for ruined the Internet?

I found better IRC servers and believe it or not... still plenty of active forums for the given disciplines that don't just take place in a subreddit. Search engines are also a component to blame here for curating results and pushing people towards Discord, Reddit and other types of social media - while de-ranking other results. Guaranteed by the vicious pay to win model Google established with AdWords. Facebook is dying, thankfully. So people have been going back to forums instead of Facebook pages for stuff. Meta, generally, is going to be around for a while though as they've mastered Instagram and are still ironing out Threads. Threads being their new, _"attractive"_ dating solution. According to the ads, at least.
