Perhaps premature to announce publicly, but here's a preview for shtf.wiki which is where I'll be posting generalized versions of my emergency SOPs.Content will be oriented towards sensible people who want to have reasonable preparedness for both severe and common emergencies.I don't have the time to make 900 YouTube videos to share information, and you don't have the time to watch them.In a few weeks I may reach out to some of you if you'd like to contribute: all will be open source.

I have some fun ideas for this project beyond a simple distributable website (and printable PDF), but I'm going to keep those parts close to my chest until the ideas (and in some cases, a viable prototype) are further along.

@eriner It's probably something you can easily monetise... I watch the "C̶a̶n̶a̶d̶i̶a̶n̶ Chicken Little Prepper" on YT... and while some of his early stuff was really good but he seems to have lost the plot lately with every video warning people that the sky is falling. He grifts his own prepper products for sale.Yes, SHTF is going to happen, yes it's going to be horribly bad and unexpected. But you have to give people some agency to make their own minds up. People will pay for GOOD information.

@eriner Thank you for all that you do with the instance, I would like to discuss real world pantries if you are interested. Is there some way to donate towards the instance?

@eriner The vast majority of “preparation” is rotation of food, fuel, batteries and standard maintenance. I view this as not being part of the transient problem, if thing turn into world ending then all bets are off. Maybe you’re part of a community to fend off the two legged monsters or you’re not.

@greyknight33 @gpmech7 I think it's mostly for hosting wikipedia and other misc content. Kind of neat, but for 1st world people I recommend checking out the Kiwix app instead. Entire Wikipedia available offline w/ pictures & video for ~100Gb.

@eriner @gpmech7 got it thanks! kiwix looks pretty neat. basically just running your very own wikipedia archive. be neat to take snapshots of that and see the cia alterations over time.probably needs some regular updates from one connected source i imagine?

@gpmech7 @eriner yeah, sounding like a massive scale intranet, like an internet for a community outside of the internet itself. neat tho as no isp is needed, but need a decent server to handle the traffic so hopefully the small village doesn't have a lot of devices :P

@SigPig Webb says every time it is about mindset. It could be that your local electricity goes down bc of a bad unlucky accident. Or some 100 year flood cuts you off. Or - with time more likely - your company went bust and you have 70% of funds. For a vast majority these questions are important:- do you need it?- how long does it last? Do you have a replacement?- does anybody know how to repair it? Can you?etc. You can't store civilization. But a little reassurance.

@eriner that might motivate me to dig up various pdf field manuals I've collected over the years if that would be a worthy contribution. My collection lacks structure/indexing/findability but has all sorts of things I think may be pertinent to the topic.
