I wish smartphone and TV vendors would play nice and just...support both Google Cast and Miracast. We had a New Year's party at my folks' place, so I wanted to cast a simple countdown page we could all count down with. But because of my phone/TV combination, I had to quickly lookup an alternate solution than the one I'm used to.(1/4)

I was using a Galaxy Z Fold 5 and a Sony TV running Android TV. For context, Galaxy devices support Samsung's Smart View feature, which only works with Miracast-enabled devices. Sony's Android TV devices don't support Miracast, but they do support Google Cast. Samsung removed/hid the "Cast" page provided by Google Play Services, plus Smart View isn't compatible (yet) with Google Cast, so there's no built-in Google Cast mirroring service on Samsung devices. Fortunately, the Google Home app still has a "cast my screen" button that you can use to mirror your Galaxy device's screen to a Cast-enabled device. Smart View is preparing to add Google Cast support, but you have to access a hidden developer option menu to enable it. That developer option menu, however, is no longer accessible in version 8.2.22.24 of the app. Hopefully Samsung rolls this feature out soon!(3/4)

Speaking of GMS features that Samsung removed, they got rid of the AOSP Wallet Quick Setting tile and Quick Access Wallet feature. And since Google Wallet itself doesn't provide its own QS tile, that means you can't access your cards through a QS tile. This isn't a huge deal since you can add a lock screen or home screen shortcut to open Google Wallet, but IMO Google Wallet should add a QS tile component that is only visible on Samsung devices.(4/4)

@MishaalRahman Things like this are why I will never buy a Samsung device. They try to force everyone into their own ecosystem.

@MishaalRahman Amen! I run into this issue a lot when staying at Airbnbs so few have Chromecast support and depending on phone (Pixels) it only supports that. Very frustrating.

@MishaalRahman I actually kind of hate Google stuffing app launchers into the quick settings toggles; imho they should be SETTINGS TOGGLES, e.g. a way to quickly turn something on or off. It's like they learned nothing from the systrays of legacy OSes since the nineties...
