The decline of politics in the United States & around the world will begin to make sense when you recognize that the literacy rate is falling off a cliff. This is very important to understand going into this year.(1 / 8)#cdnpoli #cdnpolitics #politics #christiannationalism #christofascism

130 million American adults—more than half of adults between the ages of 16 and 74—now read at below a 6th grade level. 40 percent of American students cannot read at even a basic level for learning. These rates are the worst they’ve been since the 70s, and the decline is showing no signs of stopping. It’s even worse in math. Funding has been largely inadequate, & even when it hasn’t, potential recipients have been stuck on waitlists or otherwise wrapped up in bureaucratic red tape.(2/ 8)

Teachers are quitting in droves due to the low pay, uncooperative (& often absent) students, & radicalized wacko parents. Public libraries are struggling to stay afloat due to declining interest in reading. Ray Bradbury is rolling over in his grave.(3 / 8)

So if you ever feel like you’re surrounded by incompetence, it’s because you literally are. When half of the country doesn’t even have a grasp on things as fundamental as language or deductive reasoning, how can you expect them to make informed decisions? Hell, how can you expect them to have a functioning moral compass when you combine those deficits with a steady stream of internet propaganda?(4 / 8)

Throw some hyper-individualistic isolationism & “hustle culture” tripe into the mix, & it’s the perfect recipe for a real-life Idiocracy with a heavy dose of cyberpunk dystopia.(5 / 8)
