@adhdeanaslfunny thing about ivermectin:if you're in a poor country, and you have a high parasite load, when you take ivermectin you have improvement with COVIDsimply put, with less parasite load the body has more resources to fight COVIDthis led to reports that ivermectin is effective against COVID *in poor countries in patients with high parasite load*only under these specific conditionsbut it's not as if science illiterate MAGA types understand thatanyway, this is how the whole ivermectin myth started

@accretionist @adhdeanasl I think the problem is less with science illiterate MAGA types than that this kind of explanation never gets to them. we live in information/opinion bubbles, and even when we hear something outside of that, it's rarely targeted at overcoming something like this cause we don't hear each other enough to know it's an issue. we now justify not listening to people with different views and fear bringing up ideas controversial to our tribe.

@wjmaggos @adhdeanasl yup. this is the threat of traditional centralized social media. on COVID and pretty much all important issues. millions are now "informed" by the loudest voices- anonymous edgelords, troll farms working geopolitical agendas, professional outrage machine "influencers", etc. they work people's ignorance and emotions to indoctrinate and move them into captured echo chambers. it's quite effective and a large effect on societytraditional social media is a really serious threat and i don't think we've seen the bottom yetit's why i am on mastodon and believe mastodon needs to get to a billion users. the decentralized nature of mastodon functions as a buffer against the worst of these effects
